Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Housing Schemes.

John Perry

Ceist:

533 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the exact use for the proposed facility at 3 Lyon's Place, Sligo; the amount of money that has been allocated to the centre; if he will report on the negotiation that has taken place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18446/03]

This project is being undertaken under the voluntary housing capital assistance scheme, which supports the provision of housing accommodation by approved voluntary bodies. My Department's involvement relates primarily to the provision of funds to local authorities for individual projects, within the allocation available in the public capital programme. The detailed administration of the scheme, including certification that a project complies with the terms of the scheme, is the responsibility of the local authority concerned, in this case Sligo Borough Council.

A grant of €1,930,792 towards the provision of 18 units of accommodation for homeless persons has been approved in this case, with €1,830,087 paid to date.

Question No. 534 answered with Question No. 516.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

535 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the position regarding local authority tenants who wish to purchase their maisonettes under the tenant purchase scheme. [18531/03]

The terms of the current tenant purchase scheme provide for the sale of maisonettes to tenants. Relevant local authorities have been specifically requested to consider such sales. Each application must be examined on an individual basis to ensure the arrangements made will be in the best interests of the purchaser.
