Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Job Losses.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

120 Mr. O'Shea asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of redundancies notified to her Department during 2000, 2001, 2002 and to date in 2003; the steps being taken to deal with the sharp increase in redundancies; if her attention has been drawn to the warning from the Small Firms Association that this year is likely to be the worst in many years for redundancies; her views on this assessment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18449/03]

The numbers of redundancies notified to my Department in the years mentioned by the Deputy are 13,316, 2000; 19,977, 2001; 25,358, 2002; and 10,169, 2003; to end May. I am aware of the concerns in this area expressed by the Small Firms Association.
