Ceist:

141 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the details of the trend in rates of pay of public servants, industrial workers and other key groups of workers for each year since 1997; and the forecasts for 2003 for each category of worker which has been brought to the attention of the Central Statistics Office. [18679/03]

The CSO produces quarterly average earnings series for the following sectors: public sector (excluding the health sector); industrial sector (industrial workers and clerical and managerial employees); banking, insurance and building societies; retail and distribution sector; construction sector.

Estimates of average weekly earnings for the years 1997 to 2002, together with annual increases, for the above sectors are given in the following table. Estimates relating to Q1 of 2003 are also shown for the industrial sector. The CSO does not produce forecasts of average earnings.
