Vol. 570 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

175 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science, further to Parliamentary Question No. 357 of 10 June 2003, if his Department still intends to contact the relevant school authority in the near future; if there is an internal review of these services within his Department which will delay the provision of a special needs assistant and resource teacher for the person mentioned in the question; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18952/03]

An application for special educational needs (SEN) support has been received for the child in question, who is due to commence school in September, 2003. My Department is currently processing applications for SEN supports for the school year 2003-04. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by the national educational psychological service and schools will be informed of the outcome at the earliest possible date. An application in respect of the person referred to by the Deputy will be considered in this context.
