Vol. 570 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

John Cregan

Ceist:

149 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Education and Science the services, capital expenses and running costs which are made available by his Department to a school (details supplied); if requests for additional services have been made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19271/03]

With regard to capital funding, my Department recently grant aided emergency repair works to the heating system at the school referred to by the Deputy. The management authorities at the school also applied for grant aid towards the cost of upgrading the security system. Based on the Department's budgetary allocation, however, it was not possible to make provision for this project in 2003. The allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on applications and projects that could not be included in this year's programme. In relation to current funding, the school is designated as a special school for pupils with specific learning disability and receives an enhanced capitation grant. In addition to the school's teacher complement, four special needs assistants are also employed to support pupil care needs.
