Ceist:

178 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has authorised the summer provision for the autism class for July 2003 at Scoil Mhicil Naofa, Athy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19379/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 177 and 178 together.

Scoil Mhicil Naofa, Athy is participating in the delivery of the July education programme for pupils with autism. I understand that the pupil in question is participating in this programme. My Department encourages all relevant schools to participate in this valuable initiative in the interest of the children in question. If schools are not participating in the July education programme, home tuition is offered as an alternative for the pupils who would normally attend such schools. My officials will be in contact with the family of the pupil in question to clarify the matter.
