Ceist:

296 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Transport the agencies funded by his Department, together with details of the staff numbers and the annual cost in each case. [19348/03]

The Department makes a contribution towards the staffing and administration costs of the Dublin Transportation Office – other contributions are received from the seven local authorities in the greater Dublin area, CIE and the RPA. Total number of serving staff is 32 and the Department's contribution towards the running costs of the office for 2002 was €882,467.

The total number of serving staff in the National Roads Authority is 90. The grant allocation towards administration and general expenses for 2002 was €7,139,000. In the Medical Bureau of Road Safety the total number of serving staff is 17. The grant allocation for 2002 was € 1,728,000. The total number of serving staff in the National Safety Council is 11. The grant allocation for 2002 was €2,975,000.

The Railway Safety Commission has been established on an interim basis, pending its legal establishment following enactment of the Railway Safety Bill 2001. The commission will have a staff complement of nine when fully resourced. The interim commission has a serving staff complement of four. The 2003 Estimates include €2,190,000 for the administration and expenses of the commission.
