Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - FÁS Training Programmes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

264 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will consider, in the circumstances when FÁS training courses are postponed, that the trainee staff be kept on and paid during these suspension periods in view of the fact that at present they are forced to seek alternative employment at those times until those FÁS courses recommence and they can return to their trainee positions; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20607/03]

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment has no role in relation to contracts or pay structures between FÁS and individual projects or trainees. This is a day-to-day operational matter for FÁS as part of its responsibilities under the Labour Services Act 1987.
