398 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if he has satisfied himself that he will be in a position to meet the annual commitments arising from benchmarking without increasing taxation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21269/03]

The Government is committed to paying the increases arising from the benchmarking process as agreed in Sustaining Progress subject to the conditions being met. Issues of taxation policy will be dealt with in the context of the forthcoming budget.
