474 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of primary teachers currently on career breaks for 2003-04; and the details of the percentage of this number of the overall teaching population both in primary and secondary levels. [19745/03]
In the current school year there are 1,158 primary teachers – approximately 4.5% of the teachers in the sector – and 552 secondary and community-comprehensive school teachers – approximately 3.14% of teachers in those sectors – on career break. Details of the number of teachers in the vocational sector who are currently on career break are being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as they are available.
