Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

James Breen

Ceist:

503 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science when Feakle NS will receive approval for urgent repairs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20098/03]

I take it that the Deputy is referring to Scoil Naomh Mhuire national school, Feakle. The timing of when individual projects may progress to architectural planning will depend on the budgetary provision for 2004 and subsequent years, the rate of progress of existing projects in architectural planning and the priority afforded to each project by reference to the published criteria for prioritising largescale building projects. The annual school building programme will outline details of projects for which funding is to be made available. Individual schools should, as appropriate, use their devolved grant to deal with minor capital works.

Ceist:

504 Mr. J. Breen asked the Minister for Edu and Science Science when works will start at Broadford NS in view of the fact that work was approved in 1999 for additional rooms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20099/03]

The proposed largescale building project for Broadford national school is listed in section 7 of the 2003 school building programme which is published on my Department's website at www.education.ie. This proposed project is at stage three of architectural planning (detailed plans/costs). It has been assigned a “band 3” rating by my Department in accordance with the published criteria for prioritising largescale projects. Projects listed in sections 6 and 7 will not be authorised to progress beyond their current stage of architectural planning at this time. Budgetary provisions in 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progression to tender and construction of these projects in conjunction with the band rating individually assigned. In the meantime, individual schools should, as appropriate, use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
