Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

580 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if a full time special needs assistant will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin. [20468/03]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy. Officials in the special education section of my Department notified the school by letter dated 21 August 2003 that additional special needs assistant support was sanctioned for the school to help cater for the care needs of the pupil in question. I am not aware of any request from the school for an increase in the approved level of support.

Ceist:

581 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if arrangements are being made for the provision of a special needs assistant for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 18. [20469/03]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy. All applications for resource teacher and special needs assistant resources received after 14 February 2003 and by close of business on 31 August 2003 will be examined on the basis of the supporting professional report(s) and in the context of the resources already available to the school. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists and schools will be informed of the outcomes as early as possible in the school year 2003-04.

Question No. 582 answered with Question No. 565.
