Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

705 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the accommodation crisis in Kill national school, County Kildare and the urgency in acquiring a site for a new school; if he will sanction the provision of funding to acquire a site now; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21192/03]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

711 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the developments to date in regard to the provision of a new primary school at Kill, County Kildare; the actions likely by the end of the year in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21230/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 705 and 711 together

The school building programme for 2003 has been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. Given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already under construction, my Department does not envisage that it will be a position to allow further large scale projects, including that at Kill, to commence architectural planning this year.

The timing of when a site can be acquired and the project can commence architectural planning is dependent on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years together with the competing priorities for this funding by reference to the published criteria for prioritising large-scale projects.
