Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Information Exchange Agreement.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

170 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance the progress made to date with regard to the negotiations between the Revenue Commissioners and the authorities in the Cayman Islands with a view to the conclusion of a tax information exchange agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20772/03]

In response to a parliamentary question on 28 May, I stated that the Revenue Commissioners had again written to the Cayman Island authorities to arrange first round negotiations for a tax information exchange agreement, TIEA. Since I last informed the House on this matter, there has been no further progress to date. The Deputies will appreciate that at this stage it is difficult to predict the outcome or speed of any such negotiation; it is hoped that the matter can be progressed this year.
