Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Railway Stations.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

1035 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Transport if he has considered re-connecting Connolly and Heuston Stations; and his views on whether such a connection would be of benefit to Dublin's rail network. [19737/03]

Following publication of the Dublin Transportation Office strategy document, A Platform for Change, I asked Irish Rail to conduct a feasibility study on the proposed interconnector rail route between Heuston Station and Spencer Dock. I directed that the study should also examine the possibility of using the Phoenix Park tunnel on a more regular basis for scheduled services. At present, mainly because of capacity constraints at Connolly Station, this tunnel is used only for unscheduled or occasional services such as All-Ireland matches. I understand that the feasibility study was completed recently and will be submitted formally to my Department for consideration shortly. The Luas service on the Tallaght line, when operational in summer 2004, will provide a direct link between Heuston and Connolly Stations.

Question No. 1036 answered with Question No. 1034.
