Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

John Perry

Ceist:

1038 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Transport the nature of the contractual agreement that is in place with the company which carries out the driving theory test; the name and address of the company involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19863/03]

The contract for the delivery of the driver theory testing service was awarded following a tendering process conducted in accordance with EU rules on public procurement. The contract was awarded to Prometric Thomson Learning, a company based in Manchester. The company operates a call centre in Manchester through which test applications are processed. A separate company, Prometric Ireland Limited, has been established here to operate the service. The contract is for a period of seven years and provides for the delivery of a full driver theory testing service to specified performance standards in 41 test centres nationwide. The contract also awarded a licence to the company to publish the theory test question bank.
