Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Finian McGrath

Ceist:

1119 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason there is so much graffiti on the Garda offices, O'Connell Street, Dublin 1; and when it will be removed. [19799/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there is no graffiti on the Garda office in O'Connell Street.

Removal of the graffiti on the unoccupied building next door to the Garda office, which was vacated by the parking fines office on 26 July 2002, is a matter for the Office of Public Works which is responsible for the building's upkeep.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that O'Connell Street and its environs are subject to intensive patrolling by both uniform and mobile patrols and that graffiti writers, when apprehended, are arrested and charged under the Criminal Damage Act 1991.
