Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Conor Lenihan

Ceist:

1134 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his plans in relation to achieving a more visible Garda presence at retail centres around the country and on patrol in suburban areas. [19961/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that retail outlets throughout the country receive ongoing attention with both foot and mobile uniform patrols.

The policing of retail centres is monitored on an ongoing basis and, where necessary, extra resources are deployed to address any problems arising. There is ongoing liaison between the gardaí and the business community through the Business Watch schemes.

In addition, divisional crime prevention officers deliver crime prevention advice on a constant basis to retailers as well as regularly offering such advice to residents groups and Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

The provision of community policing ensures on-going uniform patrolling in suburban estates.
