Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Programmes.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

1205 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if funding has been sought for a RAPID programme (details supplied) in County Kildare; if so, the funding which has been allocated; the funding available from his Department in regard to such programmes; the headings under which the funding is available; the timescale of such funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20626/03]

Ceist:

1215 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress to date in regard to the implementation of the RAPID programme for Athy; the amount of moneys made available for the implementation of the programme from his Department for Athy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20824/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1205 and 1215 together.

My Department has no record of having received an application or proposal under the RAPID programme for Athy. The Garda authorities are represented on the Athy RAPID area implementation team and the Garda authorities have informed me that a RAPID proposal for a community Garda programme is being developed at Athy Garda station. This programme is an extension of the neighbourhood watch scheme.

No dedicated departmental financial allocations have been made to provide potential funding for proposals received under the RAPID programme as such. However, my Department decides on approving funding for RAPID proposals within the context of existing allocations across Votes under my Department's remit. Particular priority is given to RAPID proposals which fall within the functional areas financed under the national development plan. I can, however, assure the Deputy that any proposals received through the RAPID programme for Athy will be given full and careful consideration.
Question No. 1206 answered with Question No. 1192.
