Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

Olwyn Enright

Ceist:

1212 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform why an application for a study visa for a person (details supplied) was turned down; the further evidence which is required to make this application acceptable; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20720/03]

The applicant in this case was first granted a visitor's visa in April 2003 to assist in preparations for the wedding of a relative. Her reference in Ireland was the manager of a prominent English language school who had a personal relationship with that relative. It would appear that the applicant left Ireland in mid-June after a two month visit. Just over a month later, at the end of July, my office received the visa application to which the Deputy refers. The purported purpose of the second visit to Ireland was to study at the English language school. Officials in the immigration and citizenship division of my Department having examined all the circumstances of this application, were not satisfied that the applicant intended to pursue the course of study indicated in the application. Consequently, the application was rejected.
