Vol. 571 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

262 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science when the resource teacher approved for a school (details supplied) will be appointed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21431/03]

I am aware of an application for resource teaching support for the pupil in question. All applications for resource teacher and special needs assistant resources received after 14 February 2003 and by 31 August 2003 will be examined on the basis of the supporting professional report(s) and in the context of the resources already available to the school. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists and schools will be informed of the outcome as early as possible in the current school year.

John Cregan

Ceist:

263 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the application for special needs resources in a school (details supplied) in County Waterford where the application was sent to his Department on 6 November 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21432/03]

The application referred to by the Deputy was responded to on 9 December 2002. The response in question gave sanction for one full-time resource post to the school. The principal of the school recently indicated to my Department that he never received this letter. A copy has since been sent by post to him.
