Vol. 571 No. 2

Written Answers. - Construction Industry.

Beverley Flynn

Ceist:

203 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason for such a long delay in the Irish Agrément Board assessing products for the construction industry. [21531/03]

The purpose of the Irish Agrément Board is to raise standards in the building industry, particularly in respect of innovative building products.

The raised level of activity in the building industry in recent years has led to increased demand for the board's services which has, in turn, put pressure on its resources. The National Standards Authority of Ireland, NSAI, of which the Irish Agrément Board is part, is working to match resources to the certification requirements of the building supply industry, and I am confident that these steps will soon lead to an improvement in the current situation.
