Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

135 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the need of the Bishop Shanahan school, Orwell, Dublin 6W, in respect of a special education needs teacher; the contacts he has had with the school in the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21607/03]

I am aware of the issue referred to by the Deputy.

All applications for resource teacher and special needs assistant resources received by my Department between 15 February 2003 and close of business on 31 August 2003 are being examined on the basis of the supporting professional report(s) and in the context of the resources already available to the school. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists and schools will be informed of the outcome as early as possible in the school year 2003-04.
