Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Pat Breen

Ceist:

200 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science if four special needs assistants and two resource teachers which were applied for on 22 October 2002 for the Christian Brothers primary school, Ennis, County Clare, will be allocated; if special needs assistance for a language class will be allocated to the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21818/03]

I wish to inform the Deputy that my Department's inspectorate conducted a sample survey of 25 primary schools which had been allocated resource teacher and special needs assistant support. The school to which the Deputy refers was one of the school's included in the survey. More recently, a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists has been established to consider applications for special needs resources made between 15 February and 31 August last. The needs of the school in question will be reviewed by this team in the course of its deliberations. This review will be completed by the earliest possible date.

Ceist:

201 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science when payment will be made for a physical education teacher for children with special needs (details supplied) in County Clare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21819/03]

I wish to advise the Deputy that arrangements have been made to have the appropriate claim form forwarded to the school in question and, as soon as the completed form is returned to my Department, payment for the period involved will be issued.
