Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Correspondence.

Finian McGrath

Ceist:

206 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the number of letters of protest his Department has received since the Dublin Port Company first applied for a licence to infill 52 acres of Dublin Bay; and the reason it is taking his Department so long to report on the inputs of the Dublin Port Company's latest environmental impact study. [21736/03]

Over 3,000 submissions have been received by my Department since an application was made by Dublin Port Company in 1998 for authorisation under the Foreshore Acts for the proposed reclamation of an area of foreshore in Dublin Bay.

There will be a further opportunity for interested persons or organisations to make submissions on the proposal when public consultation is initiated in relation to the application currently before the Department, which was made last year.

Matters relating to that application, including certain issues concerning the environmental impact statement submitted with the application, are being pursued with the port company. Decisions on the further action to be taken in respect of the application will be made in light of the outcome of those discussions.
