Vol. 571 No. 3

Written Answers. - State Examinations.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

64 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the concerns expressed by a number of teachers at the scheduling of the leaving certificate examinations as a result of which, for instance, some pupils had to sit exams for more than six hours on each of the three opening days of the leaving certificate in 2003; if the examinations board will reschedule the examinations in order that the burden can be spread more evenly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21534/03]

On foot of a Government decision of 6 March 2003, the State Examinations Commission has been established with statutory responsibility for operational matters relating to the national certificate examinations. Accordingly, I have passed the Deputy's query to the chief executive officer of the commission for direct reply.
