Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

228 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the conditions for distributing milk quota for the 2003-04 season. [22368/03]

The main means of distributing milk quota in the 2003-04 milk quota year are: the milk quota restructuring scheme; the temporary leasing scheme; and the milk quota appeals tribunal schemes for hardship and animal disease cases.

I announced the conditions for the distribution of milk under the 2003 milk quota restructuring scheme in the spring and they are set out in public notice 94/24. These conditions include a maximum price of 31 cent per litre –€1.41 per gallon. The priority groups for allocation of quota are certain young farmers, producers whose available quota was reduced due to non-renewal of a land lease since 2000 and small and medium scale producers.

The conditions for the distribution of milk under the temporary leasing scheme are set out in public notice 94/25 which is published in this week's farming press. The maximum price is 4 cent per litre. The conditions and priority categories are broadly similar to the restructuring scheme.

I will be announcing the conditions for the milk quota appeal tribunal schemes for hardship and animal disease cases in the near future. The conditions are likely to be similar to those which applied in previous years.
