Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

278 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if the occupational paediatric therapist of his Department is available to assess a person (details supplied) in County Kildare as diagnosed by their consultant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22070/03]

I am aware of an application for resource teaching support for the child in question.

All applications for special educational supports received between 14 February 2003 and 31 August 2003 will be examined on the basis of the supporting professional report(s) and in the context of resources already available at the school. The process involves an examination of each application and supporting documentation by a dedicated team of inspectors and psychologists. The schools concerned will be informed of the outcome as early as possible in the current school year.

Marian Harkin

Ceist:

279 Ms Harkin asked the Minister for Education and Science if the resource hours allocated to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will remain in place until the assessment as outlined in circular 24/03 is completed and implemented. [22071/03]

I have asked officials in the special education section of my Department to liaise with the school authorities on the issue in question.
