Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

Martin Ferris

Ceist:

346 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the measures his Department intends to take to ensure that the remainder of the ?22.5 million of PEACE II funds will be allocated in order to comply with the N+2 requirement. [22210/03]

My Department, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Northern Ireland is responsible for expenditure totalling €3.6 million over the duration of the PEACE II programme. The expenditure relates to the cross-Border fishing and aquaculture co-operation measure of the programme. All of these moneys have been allocated to fisheries and aquacultural projects.

I am highly conscious of the need to manage expenditure over the programme in order to minimise the negative impact of the N+2 rule. My Department, together with the special EU programmes body, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Northern Ireland and the project managers on the ground, is making a concerted effort to avoid any under spend which might result in problems with re-imbursement of EU funds.
