Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

David Stanton

Ceist:

386 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the amount made available in 2003 towards the provision and maintenance of public swimming pools; the total amount spent to date and committed; the locations and amount spent at each location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22439/03]

The provision in my Department's 2003 Estimates for the local authority swimming pool programme is €9 million, which is available in the form of grant aid in respect of the construction of local authority swimming pools. Maintenance of such facilities is specifically precluded from the provisions of the programme and is a matter entirely for the local authority concerned. Payments to individual projects in 2003 are dependent on progress through the construction process and the submission to my Department of appropriate supporting documentation in respect of grant claims. It is expected that the total allocation of €9 million will be drawn down this year. Payments totalling €4,737,495 have been made up to the end of September 2003.

The following table sets out the grant expenditure per project to date this year, the expected spend to the end of 2003 together with the consequent projected commitment for 2004 in respect of these projects:
