Vol. 571 No. 4

Written Answers. - Military Ranges.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Ceist:

191 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Defence his views on whether the Government should institute controls on foreign forces testing and training in the use of military devices on Irish soil, where such devices are not authorised for use by the Defence Forces or the Garda, in order to prevent the recurrence of incidents such as that where US Embassy military personnel reportedly fired a crowd control weapon containing CN gas near firing ranges in the Curragh. The matter to which the Deputy refers is currently under investigation by the military police. Pending the outcome of this investigation, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further. However, when this investigation is completed, I will consider whatever recommendations may be made to me in relation to the ongoing management and control of military ranges.
