Vol. 572 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Stadium.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

84 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism his views on whether there is a conflict of interest between a company (details supplied) of quantity surveyors having involvement in reporting on the viability of a redeveloped Lansdowne Road as a venue for the new national stadium and also having involvement in reporting on the viability of a new stadium at Abbotstown; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22199/03]

The company in question acted as project managers for Campus and Stadium Ireland Development Limited during the construction of the National Aquatic Centre at Abbotstown. That contract ended in July 2003. The company was selected for its technical expertise by the Office of Public Works to assist and provide expert opinion in the course of the Office of Public Works examination of the Arup report which set out the IRFU-FAI proposals for stadium development. I am satisfied that the company in question carried out its task in a fully professional and independent manner and that there was no conflict of interest involved.
