146 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the way in which he intends to support the innovative initiative of the AMNCH Hospital, Tallaght, in preparing and proposing a carefully crafted programme of adolescent healthcare and other matters (details supplied); if his attention has been drawn to the context of this proposed programme in a teaching hospital which, uniquely in Ireland, has both adult and paediatric facilities on site and which serves a catchment area which demographically is both one of the younger areas in Europe and growing in population; if he intends to approve and expedite the request of the hospital for sanction for the appointment of a consultant paediatrician with specialised experience and qualifications in that area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The regulation of the number and type of consultant medical staff is the statutory responsibility of Comhairle na nOspidéal. I understand that proposals from the hospital in respect of the posts mentioned by the Deputy under active consideration by the comhairle.
