Vol. 572 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Accommodation.

Pat Breen

Ceist:

153 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans to proceed with the ?15 million refurbishment at Ennis General Hospital in line with his commitment to the people of County Clare in 2000; when development will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22707/03]

A briefing document has been prepared by the project team for Ennis General Hospital which sets out the broad scope of proposed future development of the hospital to be considered in the preparation of an outline development control plan. The following areas have been identified by the Mid-Western Health Board as priority areas for development, on completion of the ODCP: ward upgrade; accident and emergency; radiology; outpatients; and general infrastructure upgrade.

The board has endorsed the briefing document and requested approval to formally appoint the selected design team to prepare the ODCP.

Approval to progress this project is currently being considered by my Department in the context of an ongoing review of health capital projects under the national development plan. My Department will shortly be in a position to discuss with the Mid-Western Health Board the question of progressing this project to support agreed capital priorities within the board's area and in line with funding resources available under the NDP.
