Vol. 572 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Board Costs.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

20 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children the start up costs for the setting up of the three health boards in Dublin and the Eastern Regional Health Authority in respect of accommodation, staffing and consultancies; the cost in each ensuing year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22543/03]

The cost of providing accommodation for the Northern Area Health Board, the South-Western Area Health Board and the East Coast Area Health Board amounted to €12.1 million. This cost covers a range of items including equipment, furnishings, architects and surveyors fees. The cost of refurbishing offices for the Eastern Regional Health Authority at Stewarts Hospital was €1.3 million.

A total of 88 additional posts were approved for the three area health boards at a cost of €3 million in 2000, the start-up year, and €3.7 million in a full year. A total of 55 posts were approved for the Eastern Regional Health Authority at a cost of €2.3 million in 2000 and €2.7 million in a full year.

It is understood from the authority that no management consultancy costs were incurred by them in regard to the setting up of the authority and area health boards.
