Vol. 572 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

114 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Education and Science if the future accommodation needs of the national school in Saggart are receiving particular attention in his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22654/03]

Officials of my Department's planning section meet on a regular basis with the planning department of South Dublin County Council with a view to identifying the need for additional educational provision and reserving sites for schools, where required. Arising from this process, a site for primary school purposes has been reserved in the Saggart area.

A decision on the provision of a new school in Saggart will involve further consultations with the local authority regarding the rate and likely timescale of housing developments in the area.

Officials of the planning section will continue to monitor developments in the area with a view to the timely provision of educational facilities.

Ceist:

115 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Education and Science the contacts being maintained with his Department and the board of Scoil Chaitlin Maude, the All-Irish primary school in Tallaght, Dublin 24, in respect of their future accommodation needs; if his attention has been drawn to the anxiety of teachers, parents, pupils and the Tallaght community that such issues be progressed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22655/03]

My Department has been made aware of difficulties surrounding the arrangement whereby Scoil Caitlín Maude is currently accommodated in Cnoc Mhuire junior school, Tallaght. The matter is currently under consideration in my Department and officials from the school planning section of my Department will be in contact with the school management authorities in the near future with a view to resolving these difficulties.
