Vol. 572 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

117 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will examine a situation regarding an application made by a person (details supplied) in County Cork for financial support towards the cost of taxis for their five year old autistic son. [22657/03]

Due to the exceptional circumstances which apply in this case, the family concerned have been offered an enhanced transport grant of 63.5% per mile towards the cost of private transport arrangements from their home to the school. Based on the mileage involved, this equates to €7.87 per day. This grant is the maximum rate of grant-aid payable by my Department.

Claims for payment of the grant may be made to my Department's school transport section, Tullamore, County Offaly, at the end of each school term, by forwarding a statement from the school outlining the number of days the child attended during the period.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

118 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if school transport will be arranged for two families whose children attend the Church of Ireland model school, Kilkenny city; if the current bus route which runs close to their homes can be re-routed; if a decision in both cases can be expedited; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22700/03]

A report on the families concerned has been requested from Bus Éireann. The Deputy will be advised of the position as soon as the report has been received and assessed.
