Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

235 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance his proposals regarding decentralisation to Waterford city; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22922/03]

As I have said previously, the Government remains committed to moving forward the progressive decentralisation of Government offices and agencies. However, a wide range of important issues, including the national spatial strategy, must be considered before a final decision by the Government is taken on the matter. It is vital that all involved are consulted, whether they are staff concerned about their futures or departmental managements concerned about the delivery of the public services for which they have responsibility. All the many submissions and representations which have been received by my Department, including those received on behalf of Waterford city, will be taken into account as part of the deliberative process. However, until a final decision is taken, it is not possible to state which locations will be included or excluded from the programme.
