Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

436 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport when the bus services to north Kildare are likely to be enhanced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23417/03]

The matter raised is an operational issue for Bus Éireann and Bus Átha Cliath. However, Bus Éireann has informed me that it has increased its services to Kilcock by 50% since 1998 and to Cel bridge, Straffan and Clane by over 150% in the same period. As part of this process, the above routes were enhanced by the allocation of high capacity coaches to provide additional passenger capacity. These services are constantly reviewed by the company to ensure that they respond to changing travel patterns. Bus Átha Cliath also operates bus services to Kilcock. The company has carried out regular passenger surveys and found that the services provided are adequate to meet the demand that currently exists in the area.
