Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Speeding Fines.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

152 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if there is a breakdown of the number of speeding fines, and convictions annually, as between the 30 mph limit, 40 mph and otherwise; and the relevant breakdown for the past three years. [23672/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that statistics for on the spot fine notices issued in respect of speeding offences do not distinguish between the various zones in which speeding offences occur. I have set out in the following table the number of convictions imposed by the courts for speeding offences in each of the years 1999 to 2001, inclusive, and the overall number of fines on the spot issued for speeding offences in each of those years. The figures for 2002 are not yet available.
