Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

159 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the need for extra policing in the Ballymun, Finglas, Glasnevin and Whitehall areas; if his attention has further been drawn to the need to respond positively to such needs at the present time; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23711/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources including personnel, that local Garda management is satisfied that the resources currently in place in the Ballymun, Finglas, Glasnevin and Whitehall areas are adequate to meet the present policing needs of the area. In addition resources are augmented from within the districts and divisions as required. The areas are also patrolled by the relevant community policing and district detective units, divisional crime task forces and divisional traffic units. The situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next becomes available the needs of the Ballymun, Finglas, Glasnevin and Whitehall areas will be fully considered within the context of the needs of Garda divisions throughout the country.
