Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Local Authority Housing.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Ceist:

172 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the number of transactions and the number of housing units constructed under section V of the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2002 in total and by local authority area, since the coming into law of the amended Act; the number and details of trans actions whereby cash payment or the transfer of land rather than the construction of housing units has been accepted as compliance with the Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23622/03]

The Planning and Development Act 2002 came into force on 24 December 2002. The most recent information on the number of housing units acquired under Part V for each local authority is published in my Department's June quarter 2003 housing statistics bulletin, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library. Information supplied by local authorities in respect of the first six months of this year indicates that no land transfers took place and two authorities received payments-in-lieu totalling €143,387.

Question No. 173 answered with Question No. 35.
