Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Housing Grants.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

181 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if an application by a person (details supplied) in County Cork for a new house grant which met the criteria will be re-examined. [23725/03]

Applications under the new house grant scheme, which was terminated as and from 14 November 2002, were required to be received in my Department on or before 4 December 2002. The application in this case was received subsequent to that date and a new house grant cannot therefore be allowed.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

182 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if he will investigate the situation of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin. [23729/03]

The regulations relating to the termination of the new house grant scheme require that the house must be completed and occupied by the applicant, and application for payment of the grant received by the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government on or before 13 November 2003. However, special consideration in the payment of the grant will be given in cases where genuine difficulties, outside the control of the applicant, arise in relation to the completion and occupation of the house by that date.
