Vol. 572 No. 6

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. I will call on Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. I have received notice from Deputy Pat Breen. I call on the Deputy to state the matter.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for the Minister for Health and Children not to implement the proposals of the national task force on medical staffing – the Hanly report – which proposes the Mid-Western Health Board region as a pilot project which would result in the closure of the full-time accident and emergency service in Ennis General Hospital which caters for a population of more than 100,000 which would be especially detrimental to the people in the western and northern regions of County Clare; and the need for the Minister to fulfil his promise to spend €15 million on upgrading the facilities at the hospital, including the accident and emergency service.

I have also received notice from Deputy Hayes. I call on the Deputy to state the matter.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for the Minister for Health and Children to state when he will sanction funding for St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel, and Our Lady's Hospital, Cashel, as part of a South-Eastern Health Board, High Court and Cashel hospital action committee agreement entered into in 1996; and the need for funding to be made available as a matter of urgency to enable this development to proceed as per the agreement for the benefit of the people of south Tipperary, the funding that has been made available so far having been for capital expenditure.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise the following urgent matter: the allegation in today's Wicklow Times that there has been serious and ongoing corruption involving waste operators and some personnel in local authorities in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and in Wicklow at a time when Dún LaoghaireRathdown County Council is dragging 18 householders in front of the High Court tomorrow and the implications of this for the environment and the need for—

Deputy, it is not appropriate to go outside the notice submitted to my office. Having given the matters full consideration, I did not consider them to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motions.
