Vol. 572 No. 6
259 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the revenue accrued from salmon licences on each salmon river here in the past two years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24117/03]
I am advised by the Central Fisheries Board that salmon licences are not issued on a river by river basis. The board advises me that the total number of salmon licences issued respectively in 2001 and 2002 and the revenue derived from licences sales for angling and commercial licences is as follows:

260 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the manpower available to regional fisheries boards in respect of their management of salmon rivers throughout the country; his views on the estimated amount of illegal salmon poaching on rivers here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24118/03]
I am advised by the Central Fisheries Board that there are 297 field staff in the regional fisheries boards engaged in salmon fisheries management. The board advises that these staff work on a cross functional flexibility basis in the management of salmon and other inland fisheries species.
I expect to receive a comprehensive report on the management and operation of the 2003 Irish salmon fishery from the Central Fisheries Board before the end of the year. The report will offer a factual analysis of the board's protection effort in addressing illegal salmon fishing and I cannot comment further until this report is available.
