Vol. 572 No. 6

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

265 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the progress which has been made with regard to an application for grant aid under the native woodland scheme for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24234/03]

The Government remains committed to the forestry planting and support schemes operated by my Department. Given the level of funding available in 2003 it was decided in consultation with the forest sector to focus funding primarily on delivery of a viable planting programme. This meant that the funding available for the other schemes including the native woodland scheme in 2003 was limited and allowed only for supporting the development of pilot projects under that scheme.

With respect to 2004 funding allocation for forestry in general and the native woodland scheme in particular will be determined by the Estimates process for that year.
