Vol. 572 No. 6

Written Answers. - Taxi Regulation Act.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

321 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport when he intends to enact all sections of the Taxi Regulation Act 2003; the membership and chairmanship of the advisory council; when he intends to appoint the council; when he intends to appoint the regulator; if he has decided on the person who shall fill that appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23875/03]

I will take decisions regarding the commencement of the provisions of the Taxi Regulation Act 2003 when the commission for taxi regulation is established and when the commission is in a position to take on the various roles envisaged for it. Section 14 of the Act provides that the commissioner for taxi regulation must be selected by open recruitment competition held by the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission. The position was advertised earlier this year, and I expect a response from the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commission shortly.

I hope to make an order to establish the advisory council to the commission for taxi regulation under Part 4 of the Act in the near future following completion of my consideration of nominations received from a range of interest groupings. The Act provides for a Council consisting of a chairperson and 17 ordinary members.

Questions Nos. 322 and 323 taken with Question No. 320.
