Vol. 572 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Registry Office.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

362 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the reason for the increase in the volume of work being processed by the Land Registry office since the launch of ITRIS and EAS relates to there having been a substantial backlog of work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24311/03]

The Deputy will appreciate that the increased productivity in the Land Registry and in Registry of Deeds has been a consistent feature of the performance of both registries for many years and has largely been the product of ongoing and constant innovations by staff and management with a strong focus on strategic management. Among the high level strategies designed to achieve the objectives outlined in the Land Registry business plan was the introduction of ITRIS and the imaging of all paper folios and filed plan maps. The system, which involved considerable investment by the Land Registry, was designed to facilitate the introduction of many innovations in the entire registration process. It has facilitated customers and Land Registry staff in preparing, lodging, and processing applications, reducing queries, eliminating repetitive tasks, making necessary documents and information more readily available, all of which have led to increased productivity. The additional staff resources provided to the Land Registry office in 2000-01 have also assisted in increasing production levels.
