Vol. 572 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Seán Ó Fearghaíl

Ceist:

371 Mr. Ó Fearghaíl asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the procedures to be followed by local authorities in dealing with the tenant purchase of isolated cottages; and if a discount is to be given in respect of situations in which a site was transferred to the local authority free of charge. [23974/03]

The procedures for the sale of houses, including cottages, under the current tenant purchase scheme, were notified to local authorities by way of my Department's circular letter HRT 6/95 of May 1995. I am arranging to have a copy of the circular sent to the Deputy. Where a site was transferred to a local authority for a nominal sum, the scheme provides that in calculating the sale price to the tenant purchaser, the applicable discount includes an amount which reflects the difference between the current market value of the site and the nominal sum paid by the local authority.
