The Information Society Commission engaged the services of Accenture earlier this year to conduct a study on the value of developing a national e-payments strategy. The commission's report, Delivering a World Class Payments Environment, was published on 24 June 2003. The report outlines a strong economic rationale for the development of a cohesive national strategy to co-ordinate the delivery of a world-class payments environment in Ireland.
The key challenge identified by the report is the development of an appropriate engagement model that can secure the commitment of all public and private sector stakeholders to a common vision and agree with them a shared road map for moving forward.
